DAVID BRIAN KUJAT
Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1962 and raised in Southfield, Michigan. Went to Evergreen Elementary, Berkshire Jr. High and Groves High School, all in Birmingham, Michigan. Started piano in 3rd grade and alto saxophone in 5th grade. Played saxophone in band, symphony band, orchestra, jazz ensemble and marching band. Received 5 blue ribbons at solo and ensemble festivals in high school. Studied at Oakland University for jazz saxophone and piano from 1981-1983. Started playing professionally in 1981 with blues/rock/oldies band called the "Point". In 1985 began playing with top 40 band called "Kid Lighting". 1988 began performing with his wife Maria in a 6-piece lounge act called "Playfair". 1989 began playing in trio called "Take 3". 1991 David and Maria Kujat formed the duo "Sax Appeal" which is still performing. Sax Appeal recorded a CD, "Together Forever" in 1995. David "Kooj" Kujat recorded an all-original, all saxophone CD, "Glorious" in 2000 and has his newest CD "Funday" just released in fall of 2003. David created, sequenced or performed all the music on all three CD's. Sax Appeal and Kooj have performed on the Mitch Album Show three times, and Kooj has performed with Soupy Sales. Dave has also arranged jingles/ads for Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor and the Oakland Press Newspapers.
